Tents to Shanti Fund
AFTER A VISIT TO HAITI TOGETHER, MOTHER-DAUGHTER TEAM VICTORIA AND KK CRESSMAN ESTABLISHED THE TENTS TO SHANTI FUND TO RECEIVE CONTRIBUTIONS AND MAKE GRANTS TO IMPROVE THE LIVING CONDITIONS FOR CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE FUND’S MISSION IS TO DISTRIBUTE FUNDS TO SUPPORT THE PROVISION AND DELIVERY OF HUMANITARIAN AID AND ASSISTANCE, WITH A PRIMARY FOCUS ON BUILDING SMALL CINDER BLOCK AND PLYWOOD HOMES FOR THOSE IN UNDER-SERVED COMMUNITIES IN JACMEL, HAITI.

The Tents to Shanti Fund of the Marin Community Foundation primarily supports the Art Creation Foundation for Children (ACFFC), which works to provide for children and family’s needs in Jacmel, Haiti.

After the 2010 earthquake and over the past 11 years, Tents to Shanti built cinderblock homes in the small town of Jacmel to provide a safe shelter for dozens of children and their families. They provide holistic care to over 100 children every day– from necessities like clean water and food – to medical care, schooling, a robust arts program, skills building, and more.

Currently, the community of Jacmel is grappling with a water crisis, as local grocery stores are discovered to be providing contaminated water, leading to illness among our children. Any funds received will be dedicated to implementing a sustainable water system to ensure clean and safe drinking water for the children.

Moreover, recent security concerns have escalated, exemplified by recent gang violence, posing a threat to the safety of ACFFC’s students. ACFFC has devised a strategy to deliver food to students trained in solar cooking during unsafe periods, mitigating the risks associated with accessing the foundation.

As part of the fund’s upcoming initiatives, we plan to support a backpack and school supply drive in the summer, followed by a tuition drive in August. However, the immediate focus is on the safety and well-being of the community members.

The escalating costs of food and propane, coupled with potential challenges in fund transfers due to bank and Western Union closures, present a pressing issue for the ACFFC Program Director in Jacmel.

Your generous support can make a significant impact on the lives of those affected, providing not only clean water but also ensuring the safety, education, and nourishment of the community. We kindly request your consideration for a donation to aid in these crucial efforts.

Should you choose to support this organization or project, your contribution will be made to Marin Community Foundation, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation that is a tax-exempt public charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3).

Contributions made via the Donation Center are distributed by MCF to the donor’s intended recipient. In the case of MCF pooled funds, where donations are collected into a single fund and then granted to multiple organizations, MCF receives your donation and distributes the total collected funds to the grantees for that fund. Your contribution may take up to 45 days to be received by MCF and sent to the intended recipient organization. No fees are assessed on any specific donation to or from a fund. The full amount of your contribution to MCF constitutes a charitable contribution that may be tax deductible. Donors should consult their personal tax advisors for any questions regarding tax deductibility based on their personal tax situation.

In some instances, for reasons outside of MCF’s control, a contribution may not reach the intended recipient. This may be due to the intended recipient’s loss of federal or state tax-exempt status or other reasons. In such a case, MCF will select another recipient organization based on its sole discretion.
